Deep thoughts about the world around us...

This has certainly been an interesting week.  Lots of usual and unusual craziness.  Quite a few parent complaints and incidents involving parents have kept me and others on our toes.  Today a teacher (who shall remain anonymous) told me that a parent of one of her students basically said that she wasn't pretty.  Not to be creepy or pervy, but I happen to disagree with the parent.  The anonymous teacher is pretty (again, just being observant...not creepy or pervy - no harassment here).  This got me thinking about pretty people, average looking people and ugly people.  For the most part, pretty people know they're pretty.  It's so obvious.  It's like they were born with a mirror attached to their hand.  Sometimes they tell us how pretty they are, even when we really don't care, but we pretend to care, well, because they're pretty.  (When I use the word pretty, it could also mean handsome, depending on the person's gender - just wanted to make that clarification).  Average people are usually quiet about their looks.  They keep it to themselves.  A few average looking people think they are pretty, when they really aren't...they are just average.  Average looking folks are usually humored to make them feel better - it's the right thing to do.  I'm wondering if ugly people really understand that they are ugly?  Do they know?  Do we do to them the same thing we do to the average people?  Should they be humored too?  Should we be very blunt and let them know that they are ugly...especially if they accuse someone of being ugly who is obviously average or pretty?  Should unknowing ugly people be informed of their ugliness?  Maybe just the mean ugly people should be informed.  What's the right situation to tell someone, "Hey, you know you're ugly, right?"  So many unanswered questions.  What do you think?
