From the L.A. Times

Epithet that divides Mexicans is banned by Oxnard school district

'Oaxaquita' (little Oaxacan) is used by other Mexicans to demean their indigenous compatriots — who are estimated to make up 30% of California's farmworkers.

From the Press Telegram

Interesting article about the LA riots that happened 20 years ago this week.    I'll never forget being on the campus of Dominguez Hills and seeing the plumes of smoke rising from LA.  I also remember desperately trying to find an open store so I could buy contact lense solution - didn't have any luck with that.  I remember driving down Willow and seeing the DMV on fire.  And I remember all the National Guard troops parked on Long Beach Blvd.  Could it happen again?  Many say no - I hope they're right.

Last days of vacation...

I'm starting to get really depressed as the vacation days dwindle down to a precious few.  I think I'm making myself sick.  Haven't felt well the last couple of days.  I spent seven hours yesterday watching the Iowa Caucus analysis on MSNBC.  I guess I'm a total political geek, can't get enough of the stuff - even the Republican stuff.  I have lots to do before Monday, but I just don't feel like doing it.  I spent most of the weekend working on room 51.  The room was a complete mess.  Now, not so much.  Hopefully, I'll get out of my funk before Monday.
